EVENTS:
Town Council Meeting:
November 14, Monday 7:30 pm
Agenda
Mr. Byron Lester and Mr. Alvin Taylor will be presenting the MDC annual budget on Monday Nov 14th at 7:30 at the Bloomfield Town Council meeting. The public will be able to make comments.
This is a great opportunity to let the town council (and BATV) know that BloomfieldCitizens and SaveOurWaterCT oppose the ordinances passed in Dec 2105 that gave super-users (i.e. Niagara) discounts on water rates and clean water project charges once they use over 500,000 gall/day. We also oppose ratepayer money being spent to extend large water mains to Woodland Ave for Niagara's use.
• We're in a drought. Incentivizing more water use goes against all conservation principles. And there is no prioritization of resident use over water bottlers.
• Niagara is a for-profit private corporation: why should they escape paying a fair share of the clean water project charge all MDC customers with sewers pay? If Niagara wants to profit off CT water, it should contribute to water infrastructure in the state necessary to keep the CT River, LI Sound, and area basements clean.
• MDC is in a budget crunch- ratepayers and towns have rate increases....why give a massive outlay to Niagara?. We could use that money for MDC ratepayers
• We don't want ratepayers to finance more MDC bonds for a water main extension that will provide water for Niagara's 3/4th line.
SAVE will be holding a protest on Wed Nov 16th at 4:30 pm at the MDC offices at 555 Main St. in Hartford and attending the yearly hearing at 5:00 PM
